The last couple of weeks didn’t go as planned.

While I was away on retreat, a winter storm moved through the Nashville area and temporarily closed the Tileworks. Some members of our team are still navigating the effects of that storm at home. It was a reminder that even when our work pauses, life doesn’t always slow down in the ways we expect.

When we reopened, it didn’t feel right to jump straight back into business as usual.

So this Tile Talk Tuesday is about the people behind the tile.

In the video, you’ll hear from our tile makers as they reflect on what helps ground them when things feel uncertain and what continues to guide their work during challenging moments. Their answers aren’t rehearsed or polished. They’re honest, thoughtful, and deeply rooted in care for the craft and for one another.

Making tile is physical, repetitive, and focused work. In many ways, that rhythm becomes an anchor. Showing up, working with your hands, paying attention to detail — those small, steady actions can bring a sense of normalcy when everything else feels disrupted.

What stood out most to me while listening to the team was how much intention still lives in the process. Even when conditions aren’t ideal, the care behind each piece doesn’t disappear. If anything, it becomes more meaningful. Tile ends up in homes, kitchens, bathrooms, and spaces meant to provide comfort and shelter. After the past couple of weeks, that feels especially important.

We’re incredibly grateful for the patience, understanding, and kindness we’ve received from our customers and community. It means more than we can easily put into words.

Thank you for allowing us the space to move at a human pace, and for valuing the people who make the work possible.

This Tile Talk isn’t about trends or announcements. It’s about connection, continuity, and the quiet strength that comes from doing work with care — even when things don’t go according to plan.
