Backyard Bird

Backyard Bird — Americana Delft Icon Tile

A small visitor from the backyard.

Our Backyard Bird icon tile features a familiar songbird perched on a branch, hand-painted with cobalt brush strokes on an ivory ceramic tile. The silhouette is inspired by the blue jay, one of the most recognizable birds across American backyards. Bold, curious, and impossible to ignore, it’s the kind of bird that turns an ordinary morning into a moment worth noticing.

Part of our Americana Delft collection, this tile draws from the historic Delft tradition of capturing everyday life in small painted scenes. Where classic Delft tiles once featured village birds and garden life, Backyard Bird celebrates the quiet wildlife that shares our American neighborhoods.

Designers often scatter icon tiles like this throughout a backsplash or feature wall to create a collected, storytelling installation. Paired with our matching Americana Delft plain field tile, Backyard Bird adds a light, natural moment within a field of ivory tile.

Handmade Variation

Every Americana Delft tile is individually painted by hand in our Nashville studio. Because each icon is created with a brush and cobalt oxide, natural variations are part of the character of the collection. Brushstrokes may appear slightly lighter or deeper in tone, and small differences in linework or detailing may occur from tile to tile. These subtle variations reflect the hand of the artist and ensure that every installation has the warmth and authenticity of true hand-painted tile.

Every Americana Delft tile is painted to order, continuing a centuries-old craft tradition while telling a uniquely American story. Custom icon requests are always welcome.
